Fox Lake grew up as a summer resort and recreational boating destination on the Chain O'Lakes, and plenty of local businesses still live by that calendar. July is packed and January is quiet. What they need is a website and search presence that change with the seasons, and photography that shows the water, the patio or the showroom at its best. That is the work we do here.

Plan for the season, not just the summer

The Fox Waterway Agency, headquartered at 45 S Pistakee Lake Rd, manages the Fox River and the Chain O'Lakes and sells the stickers boaters need. When boats come out of the water in fall, marinas, bait shops, bars and rentals feel it right away. We build sites that are easy to switch between seasons:

One village, two counties, one Metra terminus

Fox Lake spans Lake County and McHenry County, and people search using both. Your service-area copy and listings should name each county. The village is also the end of Metra's Milwaukee District North Line, 49.5 miles from Chicago Union Station. That puts both daily commuters and Chicago weekenders within reach of targeted ad campaigns.

Village money for a new storefront sign

The village's Facade Improvement Program reimburses 50% of eligible work, up to $4,000 per storefront, on projects of at least $1,000. Permanent signage, awnings, painting and windows qualify. The Village Board must approve the project before work starts, through Community Development at 847-587-3176. If a logo refresh leads to new exterior signs, we hand over sign-ready files early so you can apply first. Fox Lake also runs five TIF districts over most of its commercial corridors and two Business Development Districts that reimburse a 1% sales tax for expansion and facade work.

For drone video, Fox Lake is simpler than most of the region. FAA data puts the village center in uncontrolled Class G airspace, with Class E starting at 700 ft overhead. The FAA UAS Facility Map has no grid here, so routine Part 107 flights at or below 400 ft do not need LAANC authorization. The O'Hare Mode C veil is a transponder rule for manned aircraft, not a drone approval.

• We keep clear of the private heliports the FAA lists for Fox Lake (64IS and IL44) and the Great Lakes seaplane base (41IL) on the Chain.
• We don't assume launches are allowed at Chain O'Lakes State Park and ask the park first.

Before each flight we still check the FAA B4UFLY app, LAANC and any TFRs, because conditions change.

The Village's forms page has no dedicated film or photography permit. The nearest options are a Special Event Application and a Parks & Recreation Facility Rental Form, and Village Code 3-14-2 requires a permit for special events. Whether a small commercial shoot in a park needs one is not published, so we confirm with Parks & Recreation first. Good local settings for video and stills include:

• Lakefront Park at 10 Riverview Ave, with its beach and splash pad
• The Fox Lake Metra station at 22 N Nippersink Blvd
• The 1884 Mineola Hotel, listed on the National Register; it is closed, so we shoot the exterior from the public way

Do you need FAA approval to film our Fox Lake marina from a drone?

Usually not. FAA data shows no controlled surface airspace over the village center and no LAANC grid, so Part 107 flights up to 400 ft are in Class G. We still check B4UFLY for temporary flight restrictions, and we give the nearby private heliports and the Antioch seaplane base plenty of room. If the marina sits on state park land, we ask the park before launching.
