The village works like two towns. Old Town sits on Main Street along the Fox River, with restaurants, pubs and a 1907 Village Hall. Randall Road on the west side is a regional shopping corridor anchored by Algonquin Commons. Add a county line through the middle, and a business here has to be precise about where it is and who it wants to reach.

One village, two counties

About 78% of Algonquin's area is in McHenry County; the rest is in Kane County. Old Town versus Randall Road

The Village sign code has separate sections for the Old Town District (Sec. 29.13) and the Randall Road Corridor District (Sec. 29.14). A sign that suits a Randall Road storefront may not fit Main Street, so we confirm the district rules with the Village before a new logo goes onto a building.

The two markets differ, too. Most of Randall Road's principal employers are retailers, from Jewel-Osco and Walmart to Meijer, Home Depot and Target, and River Point Center is expected to fill with Fleet Feet, Wing Snob, Burlington and 7-Brew. Independents there fight national brands for every search. Old Town sells an evening by the river, which calls for video and atmosphere more than coupons.

A reset festival calendar

Founders' Days went on hiatus in 2025, and the Village debuted Algonquin Fest at Spella Park, July 30 to August 2, 2026, with a private partner. Art on the Fox brought about 75 artists to Main Street in mid-September, and Kite Fest followed at Spella Park. Median household income is $134,525, and 20.7% of residents speak a language other than English at home, so event promotion through social media and ads can be targeted by area and language.

Lake in the Hills Airport sits about 3 nautical miles north of the village reference point, right along Algonquin's northern edge. It has no control tower, so there is no Class D airspace, but planes fly low in its traffic pattern. On any shoot near the north end of town we keep a close watch on the sky and give way to manned aircraft.

The rest is simple. FAA data show Class G from the surface to 700 ft AGL over the village and Old Town, and no LAANC grid covers Algonquin, so flights at or below 400 ft need no LAANC authorization. The O'Hare Class B shelf overhead starts at 4,000 ft MSL. Hospital heliports at Northwestern Medicine Huntley, about 2.4 nautical miles west, and Mercyhealth Crystal Lake, about 4.3 north, mean medical helicopters are possible.

We still pull up B4UFLY and confirm LAANC and TFR status ahead of every flight. It is a planning habit, not legal advice.

Algonquin has no separate park district; the Village runs its 21 developed parks. We found no Village film or photo permit page, so we confirm with the Recreation Department (847-658-2716) before a commercial shoot. Parks such as Riverfront Park and Cornish Park are open dawn to dusk unless the Board of Trustees grants special permission, which matters for sunrise and twilight sessions. Pavilions and gazebos are rented by application. Favorite spots: Riverfront Park's gazebo and kayak launch on the Fox, the clock tower in Cornish Park, and the Historic Village Hall on Main Street.

Should our Algonquin business target McHenry County or Kane County?

Both. Most of the village is in McHenry County, but part is in Kane, and customers on either side search with county and nearby town names. We list both counties and neighboring towns in your service area, website copy and Business Profile, then track which searches actually bring calls.

Can you shoot drone video of our Randall Road store with Lake in the Hills Airport so close?

Usually, yes. The airport is non-towered, so there is no Class D airspace, and FAA data show Class G to 700 ft AGL with no LAANC grid over Algonquin. We fly at or below 400 ft, watch for low pattern traffic, give way to manned aircraft and check for temporary flight restrictions first.

Should we plan our marketing around Algonquin Fest?

For 2026, it was the main summer event, held at Spella Park from July 30 to August 2 after Founders' Days went on hiatus. Whether it returns after 2026 has not been announced in what we reviewed, so we keep Art on the Fox in Old Town as the anchor and add Algonquin Fest once dates are confirmed.
