Up front: Identity Start is based in Illinois, at 806 S Lily Lake Rd in McHenry, and we haven't completed a Wisconsin client project yet. Kenosha and Walworth counties are part of our service area, though, and Kenosha is about 28 miles from our McHenry studio. Ashton Clow has also done personal on-location photo and video work well beyond this region, so travel and new locations are routine for us.
Kenosha businesses sell across a state line. Depending on what you sell, customers include Wisconsin locals, Illinois commuters and relocators, and students at two campuses. Your website has to speak to all of them without reading like three different businesses.
Marketing That Fits This Town
Customers on both sides of the state line
Kenosha is the northern end of Metra's Union Pacific North Line, and the city sits between Chicago and Milwaukee. Many buyers here know Illinois as well as Wisconsin. For SEO, that means pages that mention Chicago-area terms alongside Kenosha County. For paid ads, it means geographic targeting that crosses the border on purpose, with separate reporting for each side so you can see which audience pays off.
Headquarters, warehouses and the vendors around them
Snap-on keeps its world headquarters here and Jockey International its corporate headquarters. Amazon, Rust-Oleum, Uline and Associated Wholesale Grocers run warehouses or distribution in the area. The local economy has moved from manufacturing toward services, which puts a premium on:
- Facility video for recruiting and sales
- Aerial views of sites in the I-94 business parks, planned around airport limits
- Clean case-study pages for B2B suppliers
Two campuses and a Saturday market
UW-Parkside has more than 4,000 students and Carthage College more than 2,500, alongside Gateway Technical College and Herzing University. Campus-adjacent shops need social media that reaches students and alumni. Downtown, the Kenosha HarborMarket runs every Saturday from May through October on 2nd Avenue, and Celebrate America brings crowds to HarborPark on July 3 and 4. Go Downtown Kenosha, the Lakeshore Business Improvement District, and the Kenosha Area Chamber are good local partners.
Drone Video & Airspace
Kenosha's airspace splits by geography, and that shapes how we schedule drone video here.
- West and central city: Kenosha Regional Airport (KENW), 4 miles west of town, has a Class D from the surface to 3,200 ft within 4.2 miles. Flights there need LAANC. FAA grids run 400 ft near the city center and 0 to 200 ft near the airport along I-94 and Green Bay Road.
- Lakefront: HarborPark, Simmons Island and the shore toward Carthage returned no facility-map grid, so LAANC isn't required there.
For a business-park shoot, we request LAANC ahead of time and set altitudes to the grid. We also avoid the hospital heliports, including Froedtert Kenosha near the lake. B4UFLY, LAANC and TFR checks happen before every launch, especially around July 4th fireworks.
Shooting on Location
The City of Kenosha publishes a Special Event Planning Guide, revised January 2025. We couldn't verify its film or photo rules, and we don't repeat third-party fee figures. We confirm with the City, and with park staff, before shooting on public property. VISIT Kenosha's Film in Kenosha page promotes locations, but it isn't a permit office. Strong settings include:
- The North Pier Light (1906) and Southport Light Station (1866)
- The vintage PCC streetcars on the 2-mile downtown loop
- Library Park and Third Avenue historic districts, from the sidewalk, since most homes are private
- The Kenosha Public Museum and Civil War Museum
Our Work Nearby
With no Wisconsin project yet, our closest real work is Rick Signs & Repairs in Chicago, about 50 miles south, which shows our work for a trade business. Northwest Rescue, an ambulance service based in Rockford, is where we built the website, photography and promo video. We also serve Waukegan, about 15 miles south along the lakeshore, and Lake Geneva.
Common Questions
Have you worked with Kenosha businesses before?
Not yet, and we'd rather say so. Identity Start is an Illinois studio, and Kenosha County is part of the area we serve. Our nearest completed project is in Chicago. You would be an early Wisconsin client, so we'll put extra care into the work and ask to feature it with your permission. A free brand audit is an easy first step.
Can you shoot aerials of our building near I-94 and Kenosha Regional Airport?
Usually, with LAANC. Western Kenosha is inside the airport's Class D, and FAA ceilings near the field can be 0 to 200 ft. We request authorization before the shoot day and plan altitudes and angles to fit. Where a grid is very low, we may frame the building from the ground or from farther away.
Should a Kenosha business market to Illinois customers too?
Often, yes. Metra's Union Pacific North Line ends here, and the city is a commuter hub between Chicago and Milwaukee, so many customers live or work across the border. We write location pages and set ad targeting to reach both. See our pricing packages for SEO and ad management plans.
